Interview:

1. What type of rescue or volunteer work are you involved in?

I currently care for six managed cat colonies—five in Bensalem and one in Levittown. Altogether, that’s about fifty precious cats who rely on me every single day. I make sure they have food, water, and warm shelters, and I do everything I can to give them safety, stability, and love.

2. How did you get started doing this type of work?

My journey began 30 years ago on what was supposed to be a simple night out playing miniature golf. Instead, I spotted a mother cat with two tiny kittens tucked in the bushes. Something in me knew instantly that I had to help them.

Back then, caring for feral cats was much harder, but I found a vet willing to help. I slowly gained their trust, trapped all three by hand, and made sure they were spayed, neutered, and safe. From there, I fed them every day and provided shelters. That mama cat lived outside for an incredible 23 years.

Helping her and her babies changed my entire life. Since then, I’ve trapped hundreds of cats for TNR, found loving homes for countless friendly cats who were abandoned or lost, and learned more than I could have imagined. She was the beginning of everything for me.

3. What motivates you to volunteer your time?

Seeing these cats healthier, safer, and no longer struggling to survive or reproduce is what keeps me going. Spay and neuter saves lives and reduces fighting, injuries, and suffering.

But honestly, what motivates me most is arriving every day and finding them waiting for me… little faces lined up, trusting that I’ll show up again. Knowing they depend on me fuels my heart.

4. Are there any special animals that stand out from your time in volunteer work?

Mama Cat will always be the one who changed everything. She was my first TNR cat and lived a miraculous life of 23 years outdoors.

When she was 17, she had a serious encounter with another animal and lost both limbs on her left side. Despite all my efforts, I could never successfully trap her to get help. Yet somehow, she healed herself and continued living for another six years with partial limbs. Her resilience was beyond anything I’d ever seen. She was tough, she was wise, and she inspired my entire rescue journey.

5. If you could change one aspect of pet ownership in our country, what would it be?

I wish more people understood how important spay and neuter truly is. It’s one of the greatest gifts we can give our pets and our communities.

I also wish people recognized that animals are not disposable. They love us without hesitation, and they deserve that same love and loyalty in return. Shelters and rescues are overwhelmed. We have to do better for them, to protect rather than abandon.

6. What are your hopes or goals for the future of your rescue or mission?

My greatest hope is simply to continue showing colony cats the love and compassion they so often go without. But my dream is to one day have a full sanctuary where every one of them could live safely, freely, and dearly cared for.

7. Are there any upcoming projects or events you’re excited about?

Yes. I’m currently working on a personal project at home. I’m relocating a few cats from the place where this whole journey began. I’ve built a shelter for them in my backyard and plan to expand it this spring so they can enjoy both indoor comfort and safe outdoor access. It feels like bringing things full circle.

8. What would you like people to know about the importance of helping animals in need?

The animals I help never asked to be abandoned or born outdoors without a chance. They didn’t choose their circumstances. That’s why I do everything I can, because even if I can’t save them all, I can change the world for the ones I reach.

Not everyone can run colonies or trap, and that’s okay. There are so many ways to help: donating food, volunteering, fostering, transporting animals to safety. Every single act of kindness makes a difference. Together, we can lighten their load.
